Furniture Make Over

18 Oct

So, I know I’m mostly a {sewer} to all of you, however, there are few other things that I can do … like refinish furniture.  So, I thought I’d share some of the pieces I’ve finished in the last few months with you over a course of a few days…

A personal goal I set for myself, well, for our home is to furnish the rest of it with Craigslist items or Goodwill purchases.

We moved from a smaller home to a home over double it’s size, so we have a few rooms to fill.

Well, our ‘formal dining room’ needed some furniture to fill it, so I found this gem on Craigslist for $25!!!!!!!!

You read right, TWENTY FIVE BIG ONES!!!  It even has a light in it … THAT WORKS!!!!!

I love how it turned out.  Just waiting to find just the right hardware to finish the look …

What do you think?

Before...

Beauty, right? Behold!!!!!!!!!

HOW DID I DO IT?

I simply removed the hardware and sanded the areas down a bit.  Then I spray painted the base coat … flat black.  Let it dry over night.  Got back to it and slapped some oops blue paint on there and rubbed ransom areas off with a damp paper towel.  Then when that was all dry, I went back over it with a glaze/water/paint mixture to give it extra character {the glaze loves cracks and crevasses and I wanted to showcase those on this piece}.

Sorry about the evening shot ...it's still pretty, don't ya think?

A daytime shot

A different perspective

Needs some door handles, the right ones will come along

now for a couple of close ups…

Thanks for stopping by!  … and I love reading your comments!

If you have any questions about any details or anything about the hutch, please feel free to ask and I can help you as much as I can.

Update!!!!   This awesome hutch {I really love it, too!} was featured over at My Craftie Life!  Go check her out!  There are some very talented peeps linking!!

One more update!!!!  Another feature!!!  Check out the Happy Happy Housewife … this is so exciting!!!!

Oh my gosh, this is so awesome!!!!  I’ve been featured in It’s So Very Cheri‘s favorites of the year!!!  This is great!

Ack, another feature!  I don’t know if I can handle all this attention!  I love it!!  Leslie over at Bargain Shopping Paradise featured my hutch!

Isabella over at Bella Before and After featured the blue bombshell too!!  She has some great before and afters, go check her out!

Go on over to I {heart} Nap Time, Jamielyn just featured my hutch too!!!  This is tooooooooo awesome!

I just discovered the Kuzak’s Closet favorited {is that a word?} my find as well!  Thanks, Amanda!

Miss Marni from Sassy Sites also took notice of our big blue!!!  Thank you so much for the feature!

I’m thrilled to have my hutch featured by Jen at Tatertots and Jello!!!!!

Jimminy!!!!  Head over to Under the Table Dreaming by Stephanie Lynn …. you’ll see the pretty {and other pretties} ….

Creations by Kara has the blue nugget up for show too!

I was sooooo excited to see big blue on Mique’s site 30 Handmade Days!  Featured along with my friend, Kim, and her closet creative space!  This is the second time we’ve been featured TOGETHER!  Yeah!!!!

Thank you! It was an oops paint from HD. I looked on the label and it said it was a custom color … no name to it. I’m sorry I couldn’t give you a name :(

  9. Bondalou November 7, 2010 at 8:52 pm #

That’s okay! It seems like the really gorgeous paint jobs use oops paint. It’s a little happy accident, I guess!! Thank you and keep up the good work!

It looks like MY hideous 70′s marble and gold and wood furniture that got passed over to us when we didn’t have money to buy furniture. I can’t wait to get new furniture in my bedroom!!!! Your hutch came out simply stunning. Great job.
